The Circle 2019:

For the 2019 edition, we will meet in the historic and beautiful city of Budapest, Hungary. Throughout history, Budapest has been the stage for encounters – between ideologies, between East and West.

Budapest has emerged as a city of innovation with a rapid-developing urban economy and strengths in commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment.

On our agenda for this year are again a very diverse set of topics and speakers.

Being in Budapest will give us the opportunity to learn firsthand about Hungary’s latest political developments. Europe and its future are an urgent topic for debate and some of the extreme approaches can be witnessed in Hungary.

  • An icon of European heritage, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame has been destroyed by fire. How should our generation do the rebuild?
  • An expert member of the advisory group to the French president, the ultimate decision-maker, will share with us different concepts and discuss the pros and cons.
  • The biosphere is already reacting to the changing climate. Can humans cope with other species?
  • A cognitive scientist committed to language, thought, and ideology research, and to fostering transparent
democratic discourse will show us how different identity clichés dominate our political thinking.
  • How was the first picture of a black hole taken and why?
  • What can we learn about ourselves from an extreme long-distance runner?
  • Let’s unlock the power of our imagination only by listening.
  • How quantum physics questions our perception of reality…

…are just a few of the intriguing topics we want to learn about.
